-Governor Jackson Mandago suffered a huge blow after a move meant to raise funds for his campaign flopped
-The governor’s team is now planning a new strategy using an expensive fundraiser dinner
After long nights of strategy meetings, and failure to get funds through all mobilization routes, Mandago’s campaign team has opted for internal mobilizations through a fundraising dinner.
Mandago has organised the dinner scheduled for Tuesday 28 March, with instructions to county staff that they MUST contribute as follows:
*County Officials: 100000
*Section heads: 10,000.
The business community as well as prominent personalities and famous athletes from Eldoret, declined to offer Mandago any support, thus the need to re-strategize through the Ksh 10,000 per platedinner.
Chief mobilizer, CEC Birir, who is known as the ‘chief architect’ of siphoning public funds using the roads sector, has now been tasked with the role of wooing the business people to attend the dinner.
However, the invitees say they are wary of this terming it as ‘one of those you tread very carefully’ lest it taints their own reputations, citing the ongoing corruption scandals in the county.
CEC Eng. Gideon Birir is the same public officer who signed for the release of county vehicles to Mandago, after recording a statement at the CID headquarters in Nairobi over the hate speech talks at the issue of Moi University, last year.
Civil society groups condemned Birir’s actions, saying they were unnecessary and a wastage of county funds to serve personal interest at the expense of public money.
Birir has been implicated in various corrupt deals, but this played out negatively for him when he decided to vie for Ainabkoi MP seat. However, this wasn’t to be as the electorate is aware of the various deals he has been undertaking in the name being a ‘Pastor person’ under the executive arm, yet he is the main conduit of fund mismanagement.
Birir is under investigation over the scheme of changing county vehicles number plates with obsolete number plates of written off vehicles then using the vehicles in Mandago’s campaign trails.
The fundraising dinner for Mandago’s campaign kitty is being organized for next week Monday 27March, but the said CECs and County officials are not comfortable being seen engaging in active politics and harambees, which is against the Public Officers Ethics Act.
There’s an air of uncertainty and suspicion amongst the team members, with proxies getting more worried by the day, leaving questions about the skepticism residents and outsiders will have over the matters at hand.
The press has been alerted over the upcoming dinner plans and will be sharing details in real time as they arise, to bring updates on just how much each CEC,County official, and other public officers within the county will contribute in order to shed light on the misuse of public funds in Mandago’s campaign.
